SKILLS TO PRACTICE

What participation could look like.

  • Ball handling, passing, catching, and age-appropriate shooting.
  • Spacing, movement, listening, and cooperative play.
  • Accepting coaching without treating correction as rejection.
  • Resetting after a turnover, missed shot, or frustrating call.

SAMPLE SESSION

Predictable structure. Active learning.

BlockPurpose
Warm-up & check-inMovement, water, safe spacing, and one skill goal.
Technical stationsDribble, pass, catch, and shoot with age-appropriate equipment.
Team challengeSmall-sided games emphasizing communication and shared opportunity.

AGE-RESPONSIVE COACHING

Start where the young person is.

Within Game Plan Academy, the 5–7, 8–10, and 11–12 age bands use different instructions, equipment, pacing, and challenges. Youth preference, developmental fit, accessibility, medical restrictions, staffing, and the actual space guide participation. No child needs to perform advanced skill to deserve respectful coaching.

SAFETY LIMITS

Protection before performance.

  • No guaranteed AAU team, tournament spot, travel, scholarship, or playing-time promise.
  • No punishment running, humiliation, water restriction, or unsafe contact.
  • Competitive club activities have separate eligibility, consent, fees, schedules, and supervision.

Qualified leadership, screened adults, emergency readiness, age-appropriate equipment, parent communication, and an approved site must be in place before this pathway opens.
