SKILLS TO PRACTICE
What participation could look like.
- Starting-line readiness, acceleration, slowing down, and safe lane awareness.
- Walking, running, agility, and age-appropriate barriers.
- Relay communication, teamwork, and completing a handoff.
- Tracking personal effort and progress without ranking a child’s worth.
SAMPLE SESSION
Predictable structure. Active learning.
| Block | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Prepare | Surface and weather check, water, footwear, and warm-up. |
| Move | Short skill stations adapted to age and readiness. |
| Connect | Relays or team challenges with clear lanes and stop cues. |
| Reflect | Notice effort, pacing, confidence, and one next-step skill. |
AGE-RESPONSIVE COACHING
Start where the young person is.
Within Game Plan Academy, the 5–7, 8–10, and 11–12 age bands use different instructions, equipment, pacing, and challenges. Youth preference, developmental fit, accessibility, medical restrictions, staffing, and the actual space guide participation. No child needs to perform advanced skill to deserve respectful coaching.
SAFETY LIMITS
Protection before performance.
- No public body comparisons, body shaming, weight-loss framing, or punishment running.
- No withholding water or ignoring heat, weather, injury, or fatigue concerns.
- Offer modified, untimed, or privately timed practice when appropriate; competition is a separate readiness decision.
Qualified leadership, screened adults, emergency readiness, age-appropriate equipment, parent communication, and an approved site must be in place before this pathway opens.
